Meet our June Calendar Pet, Maxi.
Read why Maxi proves the best surprises come with whiskers!
“I adopted Maxi at the Woods Humane Society in Atascadero in April 2023. My wife of 45 years had just gone to Heaven three months before. Maxi is very affectionate and is a wonderful companion.
I was amazed at the Woods Humane Society—it’s a house, with a room for cats, where they’re able to play with toys and each other. There were several young women—possibly student interns—who were giving the cats such loving care.
Each cat had a paper listing their age, weight, and personality: were they okay with children, okay with other pets, etc. The sheet on Maxi said that she was three years old, weighed nine pounds, and was very affectionate. And that was true.
Whenever I return to my apartment after being out for a short time, she jumps on my lap and nuzzles me.
Maxi’s favorite game is chasing a little stuffed animal that’s tied to a 3-foot bungee cord, which is attached to a 3-foot-long wooden rod. I whip the toy around, and she leaps and twists in mid-air like an acrobat to grab it. It’s wonderful exercise for her—and fun for me to watch her antics."
