Meet our May 2026 Calendar Pet, Cinder.
Read about why this fiercely independent and loving pup won the May spread in our calendar contest!
“When our doggie (Yodi) passed away from spinal cancer, and my dad, for whom I had been the primary caregiver for 7 years, passed away one month after, we found ourselves heartbroken and with an empty nest. I started scrolling through pictures of doggies at Woods Humane Society and we visited to see two candidates. One was a shy and scared Basenji who was pancaked up against the back wall in her kennel. When they brought her into our visiting room, I just sat cross-legged on the floor waiting for her, and she came over to my lap, climbed up, and stared at me, then started giving me kisses! I said, “You’re gonna break my heart, aren’t ya?” 2 days later, we were there bright and early—ready for Bella (now Cinder) to adopt us! We now take her everywhere, and everyone she meets wants to snuggle her. She’s the best dog ever. She’s taken over our couch, our trucks, our bed, and our hearts! I thank her for choosing us every single day! She is ever so loving, and also fiercely independent, her nose in the air and those ears, always alert! Bella may have had an unfortunate beginning, but here’s to Cinder having a wonderful second chance! We absolutely are in love with our little 17 lb. bundle of Basenji! Please adopt a pet—it’s worth it, I promise!" -Dawnella Worlund
