May was a busy month of growth at Woods. We cared for a large number of kittens and puppies in need of food, shelter, medical care, and foster support, with an incredible 241 animals spending time in foster homes throughout the month. 84 kittens found loving homes in May, while many more continue to grow big and strong in foster care. At our San Luis Obispo shelter, we wrapped up a long-running construction and painting project. Our Leadership team spent time working with the UC Davis KSMP Capacity Action Team to help us continue finding homes for animals as quickly as possible while building our spay/neuter capacity. As we head into the summer season, we launched a microchip and ID awareness campaign and hosted four free microchip clinics for the community. We were also excited to welcome Cory Karpin as our new Chief Philanthropy Officer. Cory's history with Woods as a former Executive Director and Board Member gives him a unique understanding of our mission, and we're fortunate to have him back as we continue building support for the future of the organization. Finally, our CEO’s family grew by one when she welcomed Angie, now Lois, into her home. Lois is a 7-year-old Belgian Malinois who arrived at Woods with significant medical needs after being removed from a neglectful situation. Her story is a wonderful example of what can happen when a dedicated team comes together to give an animal a second chance.
