As the temperatures begin to climb, please be sure to pay extra attention to your dogs and cats. On hot days, don’t leave them outside or in cars. Here are some signs and suggestions for making sure your pets stay safe in the heat of summer.
Signs of Heat Stress:
- Anxiousness
- Excessive panting
- Restlessness
- Excessive drooling
- Unsteadiness
- Abnormal gum and tongue color
- Collapse
Protect Your Pets on Hot Days:
- Never, ever leave your pet in the car
- Make sure your pet has unlimited access to fresh water
- Make sure your pet has access to shade when outside
- Take walks during the cooler hours of the day
- When walking, try to stay off of hot surfaces (like asphalt) because it can burn your dog's paws
- If you think it's hot outside, it's even hotter for your pet. Make sure your pet has a way to cool off.
