Nonprofits Co-Host New, Monthly Paws to Remember Pet Loss Support Group

Woods Humane Society and Hospice SLO County announce a new collaboration to help grieving pet owners. Paws to Remember is a free, monthly, in-person grief support group for those who have lost or are preparing to say goodbye to a beloved pet. The first session will be held at Woods Humane Society’s Community Room on Thursday, February 26, from 3-4 p.m. and is open to the community.
The idea for the new support group grew out of the nonprofits’ co-hosted annual pet remembrance ceremony, also held at Woods.
“This pet loss support group was intentionally created for those who need a safe and compassionate space to grieve the pets they have loved and lost,” said Shannon McOuat, Executive Director of Hospice SLO County. “We believe that pets are family too and it is our honor to collaborate with Woods Humane Society in offering this support to the community.”
Woods Humane Society’s Community Engagement Manager Robin Coleman says this important collaboration fills a void in our county and is several years in the making. “Co-hosting this service with our friends at Hospice of SLO County will provide a much-needed, confidential and caring space for our animal-loving community to connect, remember, and heal. Woods plays a part in so many pets’ lives in this community. We are proud and honored to now be here for their people after they pass.”
The Paws to Remember pet loss support group meetings will be held monthly at Woods Humane Society. Future dates and more information can be found at https://woodshumanesociety.org/resources/pet-loss/.
