Youth Volunteer Programs

Woods is working hard to fill our Humane Education Coordinator position so that we can resume regular youth programs. In the meantime, youth can provide community service to Woods in the following ways:

  • Read to the cats in our Catteries at both the SLO and North County locations! Reading aloud to our cats helps to soothe and socialize them, while also helping youth work on reading skills in a stress-free environment. Bring your own books or borrow from our library Sunday through Thursday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Children must be supervised by a parent/guardian at all times.
  • Complete a service project from home! Visit the link below to browse projects which can be completed from home and delivered to Woods in exchange for a signature on hours. https://woodshumanesociety.org/youth-programs/community-service-projects-from-home/
  • Gather pet supplies for Woods animals or for our Pet Pantry! Hold a donation drive to collect items that we regularly need at the shelter or to help stock our Pet Pantry for families in need.

If you are offering service to fulfill community service hour requirements for school, please track your hours on these projects and email our Community Engagement Manager, Robin, at rcoleman@woodshumanesociety.org with your completed time sheet. She will sign and return your form to you by email. If you have any questions, please email rcoleman@woodshumanesociety.org.
